PERSONAL CARE ASSISTANCE ASSESSMENTS

Our Occupational Therapists are highly experienced in both the hospital and community environment.  Our experience with discharge planning, equipment prescription, home modifications and assessment of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) provide us with a strong knowledge base for completion of Personal Care Assistance (PCA) assessments.

Our Occupational Therapists have a strong background treating musculoskeletal, orthopedic and neurological injuries and are knowledgeable re: objective assessment (ROM, MMT, Gross Grasp, Balance, etc.) and protocols for healing.  As OT’s, our mental health background allows us to address the psychosocial aspect of healing as well as the physical.

Our many years of experience as Occupational Therapists allow us to establish rapport, learn the relevant subjective information and complete a high quality, thorough, objective physical assessment for each individual which provides us critical information about an individual’s strengths, abilities and limitations prior to completion of the objective functional assessment of ADL.

We use our knowledge base to encourage an individual to complete ADL safely and independently by:

  • Recommendations/provision of equipment which may allow completion of an activity safely and independently.
  • Providing education re:
    • alternative ways to complete an activity
    • the use of proper body mechanics
    • modified sleeping positions
    • safe transfer techniques
    • energy conservation strategies

Verbal and written communication skills are a strength of our Occupational Therapists. Reports are completed in a concise, thorough and objective manner.
