Our Occupational therapists are highly specialized in Upper Extremity (U/E) rehabilitation / hand injuries for both the pediatric and adult populations. Whether you would benefit from U/E rehab due to an injury, surgery or neurological issue; each assessment and treatment program is comprehensive, individualized and based on a thorough assessment.
Musculoskeletal Injuries:
Our OTs have specialized experience providing assessment and treatment for upper extremity injuries (chronic, acute or post-operative) for clients of all ages. We are familiar with current treatment protocols for fractures, flexor tendon repairs, extensor tendon injuries/repairs, etc. which differ for the pediatric and adult populations. We can guide you with information re: time frames for return to sports, work and activities of daily living (ADL) appropriate to the age of the client.
Neurological Injuries:
We offer individualized assessment and treatment programs for both the pediatric and adult population who may benefit from U/E rehab due to Cerebral Palsy, after a Traumatic Train Injury (TBI), stroke, etc.
Services for musculoskeletal and neurological diagnosis may include but aren’t limited to:
- Individualized hand therapy programs
- Individualized upper extremity programs
- Custom splinting (static, static-progressive, dynamic, functional etc.). Assessment, Measurement and Fitting of Benik Splints (Pediatric)
- Transition of dominance
- Oedema Management
- Scar Management (Scar massage, Silicone gel products, Custom fit Pressure Garments, etc.)
- Recommendations of equipment to encourage independent Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
- Recommendations of compensatory strategies (e. g. technology) to encourage success in the school environment
