Sara-Jane is originally from rural Manitoba and graduated from the Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Occupational Therapy (OT) from the University of Manitoba in 2002.
Sara-Jane has worked in a variety of clinical areas throughout her career and has developed knowledge and skills in many key areas of occupational therapy practice including assessment and treatment of issues secondary to: musculoskeletal conditions/injuries/disease; pediatric feeding; neurological diversity including cerebral palsy, brain and spinal cord injuries; positioning and seating; sensory processing; social skills; fine motor/perceptual skills; and complex discharge planning. She has a special interest in pediatrics as well as burns and hand therapy.
In addition to working for Personal Best Therapy, Sara-Jane also works part time at Children’s Hospital where she has been a therapist for over 20 years. She has filled the role of OT Burn Clinical Specialist as well as Child Health OT Clinical Services Leader. She currently works part-time in outpatient burns and plastic surgery.
Sara-Jane is also actively involved in various psychosocial programs offered to burn survivors within the province of Manitoba. She is an active board member of the Manitoba Firefighters Burn Camp Phoenix and served as Assistant Director for many years. She is currently the vice-president of the Mamingwey Burn Society Inc. and is the program chair of the Mamingwey Burn Survivor Conference. Sara-Jane has also served on the Aftercare and Reintegration Committee of the American Burn Association.
While Sara-Jane enjoys her work and volunteer activities, her biggest joy is spending time with her husband and her two young children. She also enjoys playing sports including basketball and competitive level ultimate frisbee.
